A driveway has more than one surface to think about
Cleaning a driveway starts with identifying what it is made of. Block paving, concrete, stone and other finishes need different consideration. The joints, edges and drainage matter as much as the open surface. Tell David the material if you know it, or send a clear photograph so it can be discussed.
The aim is to address built-up dirt and organic growth without assuming every mark will disappear. Oil, rust, weathering and changes in the surface itself are not the same as a layer of grime. Point out the areas that concern you before agreeing the work.
A useful quote starts with the whole space
Take one photograph from the entrance and another towards the road. Include the drainage channels, walls, steps and any narrow passage. Tell us whether vehicles can be moved and whether the driveway is shared. These details help make the scope clear.
A clean should not be booked around a guessed area alone. Slopes, damaged joints and water run-off can affect the approach. Let David know about recent laying, existing sealant or a manufacturer’s care instructions.
What about the joints between blocks?
Cleaning and reinstating jointing material are separate tasks. Ask what is included where jointing needs attention. Do not assume sealing, re-sanding or repairs are part of a cleaning quote unless specifically agreed. Existing movement or sinking paving may require a paving contractor’s advice.

Getting ready
Arrange somewhere for vehicles to stay during the agreed working and drying period. Move small loose items where practical, and discuss heavier planters before the appointment. Keep access available and follow the guidance given for reopening the surface.
