Think of the paving as a system
The blocks, joints, edges and drainage work together. A cleaning quote should take account of the whole area rather than focusing only on the visible dirt. Before enquiring, look from ground level for movement, loose blocks or areas where water collects.

Check the condition first
Sunken areas and unstable edges are not cleaning problems. Failed joints or movement may need the attention of a paving contractor. A clean can reveal underlying variation more clearly, but it will not put the paving back into alignment.
If the drive has been sealed, or was laid recently, provide the relevant product or installation details. Existing treatments can affect how the surface should be maintained.
Ask whether jointing work is included
“Driveway cleaning” does not automatically include re-sanding or sealing. Confirm what is proposed and whether the jointing material needs attention afterwards. Obtain a separate explanation of any additional stage rather than assuming it belongs in the headline price.
The appropriate material and timing depend on the paving system and the work carried out. Follow the relevant manufacturer’s guidance and the agreed professional advice.
Manage expectations around marks
Oil, rust and old staining may behave differently from loose grime or organic growth. Mark the areas of concern in photographs when asking for a quote. A test area may be appropriate where the expected result is uncertain.
Uniform colour is not a realistic assumption for all older paving. Different batches, repaired patches and weathering may still be visible.
Plan vehicle access
Agree when vehicles should be moved and when the driveway can be used again. Mention shared access and any need to maintain a pedestrian route. Keep small loose items away from the working area and discuss heavier obstacles early.
